Dolores Heights Residence 2

Located on a steeply sloped site in San Francisco’s Dolores Heights neighborhood, this single-family home renovation preserves the character of an Edwardian house, namely its gabled roof and wood-shingled facade, while completely transforming its interior living spaces. A new “jewel box” at the rear façade re-orients the open-plan kitchen, living, and dining spaces toward a reconceived terrace and backyard, drawing natural light deep into the home and connecting the revitalized interior with the landscaped yard. Inside, a new sense of clarity and refinement emerges through clean lines and a palette of white oak flooring, muted walnut millwork, and a blackened steel fireplace.
