The complete renovation of this stately, turn-of-the-century Victorian at upper Fillmore Street resolved the circuitous circulation and a jumbled array of dim rooms by introducing natural light to the interiors, and establishing a much-needed connection to the outdoors. Partial excavation of the lower level allowed storage space to be converted into living space, while simultaneously creating a direct physical and visual connection to the rear garden.
Traditional finishes were interwoven throughout the house providing an aesthetic consistent with its historic lineage, while more modern elements were strategically inserted into the established context, bringing lightness and sophistication to the project.
